WHAT’S THIS EPISODE ABOUT?
Is There are Reason for Multiple Podcasts?
As a new podcaster, having more than one podcast sounds like insanity, right? You’re thinking, “I’m just getting this podcast thing figured out. Why in the world would I consider creating a separate podcast?”
A few months ago, I had the idea to start a second podcast – The Poddy Report. But there were thoughts and reasons for creating a second podcast. Here are a few:
- I didn’t want to switch up the format for The Proffitt Podcast.
- Having a different format – episodes coming out every, single day – seemed like it would be confusing to my current audience.
- I wanted to experiment with shorter episodes that could be listened to on devices like Alexa, Echo, & Hey Google.
- I decided to create a podcast where I could share all…and I mean all…of the stats of a podcast to the members inside The Poddy People community. (To learn more about the podcast membership program, click here.)
- Sharing the numbers for The Proffitt Podcast didn’t make sense because my journey is 2 years in the making.
- I wanted to experiment with having a daily podcast.

How I Created My Second Podcast
Within your BuzzSprout account, you can set up a brand new podcast under one account. You don’t have to have separate accounts to create a new podcast, but they will be billed on separate plans simply for the fact that they may have different amounts of hours that are being uploaded each month.
The Difference Between My Two Podcasts
The Proffitt Podcast contains practical tips and strategies grounded in teaching and instructive podcast episodes. We have interviews and solo episodes that release every Tuesday and Thursday and the length of the episodes is between 25-60 minutes long.
The Poddy Report is more opinion-based content that doesn’t have hard and fast rules around what to talk about each week. I mean, of course, it’s still all about podcasting. But it’s definitely not the same format. The episodes are less than 5 minutes and range from practical tips to current trends and resources to explore.
Should You Have More Than One Podcast?
Here are my last final thoughts I want you to consider before diving headfirst into having more than one podcast.
- Look at the subject matter of your current podcast. If what you’re thinking about creating is totally different than your current podcast (different audience, new topic, something unrelated), then yes. You need another podcast.
- Do you actually have time to create another content for another podcast? Are you already doing everything that needs to be done for your current podcast? (Promotion, Marketing, Producing, etc.) If not, then no. You don’t need another podcast.
- Do you have the bandwidth? Time and bandwidth can seem like the same thing, but I want to consider if it will stress you out to have another podcast. Will it totally overwhelm you? If your answer is yes, then you’re not ready for another podcast.
