Mistakes Podcasters Make in Social Media Groups
There are a lot of mistakes new podcasters make that get them kicked out of social media groups, Facebook in particular. But I want to make sure you don’t make these mistakes wherever you are in your podcast journey.
Questions within social media groups are an opportunity to gain a listener.
1. Immediately Posting a Link to Your Show or an Episode
This can get you kicked out of groups so fast.
Here’s what to do instead. Acknowledge their question in a validating way. You can say something like, “Great question [Person]! I see this question all of the time and here’s what I tell my [students, clients, customers, etc.].”
You’re building credibility and immediate know-like-and-trust in a social media group as someone who knows what they’re actually talking about.

2. Thinking You’ll Get Tons of Downloads from Posting One Link
Let’s just get really real here for one quick second…you will not get millions of downloads from posting your podcast link in one social media group on a Tuesday. Ain’t gonna happen.
And yet, I see and hear the disappointment all of the time. “I posted a link to my podcast, but I didn’t get any new downloads. I thought I’d surely get more listeners when I posted my link in a group with thousands of people!”
They’re not listening because they don’t know who you are!
You have to build credibility before you can expect people to pay attention to what you’re saying. I’d rather see you give away tons of value for free so the next time someone is looking for the information on your expertise, they find you and follow you because you’re the expert they need!
Show Up.
Serve Your Audience.
