How to Plan a Content Photoshoot

Let’s talk about how to plan a content photoshoot. In this episode, I share my experience and valuable tips on planning the perfect content photoshoot.  Having done five such shoots since 2018, I’ve gained a ton of knowledge from hands-on practice. To make the process easier for those embarking on their first content photoshoots, I created a helpful free guide for you to grab immediately!

Why are Content Photoshoots Important?

As an experienced content creator, I know how important having great images to capture your content message is.  You want to have diverse applications like podcast artwork, social media promotions, website visuals, and more. Ensuring high-quality, professional visuals is essential for solidifying your brand’s recognition and appeal.

Finding the Right Photographer

When planning a photoshoot, I recommend finding photographers experienced in working with online brands. Speaking from my own experience, I was lucky to find a skilled branding and lifestyle photographer through a friend’s recommendation. While this proves that word-of-mouth marketing can be effective, she advises doing your research – browse their portfolio, consider their studio setup and location options, and align it with your envisioned style and budget.

Planning and Preparing

“Being prepared” is my middle name. Beyond scheduling a date that accommodates life’s various commitments, she suggests considering personal factors like mood and comfort. Everything from your menstrual cycle to deciding whether to do your own hair and makeup or hire a professional can influence your confidence on the day of the shoot.

Planning Strategy

Regarding strategy, it’s vital to brief the photographer about your vision and requirements beforehand. This is why I suggest creating a Google Doc with preferred outfits, chosen props, and shot ideas. Preparation, organization, and communication with your chosen professional should be key elements of any successful shoot.

The Little Extras

You’ve got to find the joy in the journey. Don’t overlook this step. Attention to small details, such as bringing props that signify your brand, packing snacks for the day, or even having the photographer play music during the shoot, can have a big impact on the overall mood and outcome of your photos.

Recap

Planning a photoshoot can initially seem daunting. But with my new free guide, planning a successful shoot is streamlined and more approachable. Remember, the objective is to capture images that perfectly represent your brand, show the real ‘you’, and also to have some fun during the process!

Before I leave you, I want to make sure you’re committed to your goals. The path to success involves starting from somewhere, deciding how to plan a content photoshoot or developing a business strategy.
