How Often Should You Sell in Your Content?

When I’ve previously created this type of content around selling and making money, it was focused only on podcasts. Today, I want to focus on any type of content:

Podcast, YouTube, blog, website, email list, social, etc.

One of the first things we need to talk about is brushing up on your skills on HOW TO SELL if this isn’t something you’re good at or have you’ve never done it before. Make sure you check out the resources below about making money and how to sell in your content.

You’ll have to decide WHERE you’ll sell in your content: podcast, YouTube, blog, website, email list, social, etc.
You’ll also have to decide which you’ll sell on and how often. A great example, I don’t always have dynamic content on The Proffitt Podcast. That is usually reserved for affiliate promotions, important announcements, or when I’m in full blown launch mode.
SIDENOTE: you’ll hear promotions on here with the new Buzzsprout Ads feature, but that’s not selling something — those are promo ads for other podcasts.

I take the same approach for my YouTube channel.

I want my content to feel educational and informational — not like a walking billboard of garbage content with no value.

This is especially important for YouTube channels where someone may stumble on your content and only watch a few seconds before they decide to keep watching or jump to another video.

If they’re just getting sold to the entire time, why would they stick around?

Now for the big question is, “How often?” What is the right cadence for you?

Here’s what I do…
When I’m NOT in promo mode:
I don’t always sell on my podcast or YouTube channel in every piece of content, but I will mention a resource as another place for people to learn more and that’s my website — and I’m NEVER afraid to sell anything on my website.

It’s why you’ll hear my talk about the show notes on this podcast or in my YouTube videos — the people that are ready to take that next step know where to go find my products or programs when they’re ready to buy — my website.

When I’m IN promo mode:
I’ll sell EVERYWHERE! Sometimes even multiple times in a week.

And I don’t feel bad about it…want to know why? because I know I’ve added value and that gives me the confidence to make the ask for the sell
I’ve delivered value for free — and now I’m going to offer my best stuff that is behind a paywall.
