Different Types of Podcast Ads to Create
Let’s Break Down Podcast Ads
We’ve talked about these before on the podcast, but let’s do a quick breakdown of the different types of podcast ads.
- Pre-Roll: Audio clip BEFORE the actual episode starts
- Mid-Roll: Middle audio clip during an episode
- Post-Roll: Ending audio clip that plays after an episode is over
- Self-Sponsored: You’re writing and creating these yourself; AKA no one else is telling you what to say; You have control over the specific CTAs you want to make
- Branded: This is usually given to you in a script form or you have some sort of creative collaboration with a brand on what to say to make it sound like you. Listeners can spot from a mile away when an ad doesn’t feel authentic – whether it’s a paid ad or not!
How to Create Your Own Podcast Ads
Options to add podcast ads in to your episodes.
There are a few ways to upload podcast ads to your episodes.
- Baked-In Ads: These are recorded audio clips that are inserted into the audio file before it’s completely published to your podcast host. It can be a pre-recorded clip that you insert after the episode is recorded, or it could come in the form of a “Let’s take a break to talk about…”
- Dynamic Content: My favorite type of podcast ad! There is a lot of content on my YouTube channel to check out Dynamic Content with Buzzsprout — this is my podcast host and they have this feature built out in their platform for all users, no matter which paid plan you’re on.
