Why Is Having More Energy Important?
I’ve been asked many times, “How do you have so much energy when you’re behind the mic podcasting?” And, honestly, my first thought is always, “What like it’s hard?” (Of course, I was channeling my inner Elle Woods. Haha!)
But, for real, I know this is something many new podcasters deal with. Even seasoned podcasters can find themselves in an energy funk.
Today, I’m giving you 5 ways to help you have more energy podcasting.
1. Drink More Water.
Yup, it sounds simple. Because it is. Except many people believe that just having a glass of water next to them while they’re recording counts.
I mean, that doesn’t hurt.
What we’re really looking for is drinking more water throughout the day. This will help combat that nasty dry mouth you experience recording, help you have more energy and it’ll make you feel more confident overall.
2. Stand Up When You’re Recording
If you’re feeling your posture slumping or that you aren’t feeling confident behind the mic, maybe you should stand up. Hear me out. Because maybe some thoughts just popped into your head…
“Well, I’d love to stand up, but I don’t have a standing desk. How will I make that work?”
Make sure you check out the YouTube video I did all about this episode here where I share the picture of the actual Minecraft Creeper head box I used as my standing desk before I ever had. (I’ve also used old Amazon boxes stacked on top of each other. Do what you can with what you’re got!)
Something magical happens when you stand up to record your podcast.
The energy flows through you in a different way. You feel and sound more alive. And it can absolutely help your podcast sound that much better.

3. Working Out
I’m not here to be your health and fitness expert. But I can tell you from personal experience that I have so much more energy on the days that I work out than on the days that I don’t.
You can get so much energy to record your podcast just by taking a brisk 5-minute walk before you start recording. One of my favorite ways to get a little extra pep in my step is to turn on one of my favorite songs and dance it out.
“Whenever I work out and then I come into this office to record a podcast, I feel better about myself. I feel more confident. I feel more energetic. I just feel more alive on days that I work out…” – Krystal
4. Highest Energy Times
Most people identify themselves as either a morning person or a night owl. You probably just read one of those and immediately said, “Yup, that’s me! I’m a _________.”
One of my secrets to achieving all the things I can in a week’s time is to take advantage of my highest energy times. (And by the way, I identify as a morning person.)
I first really took this approach from the book, “The One Thing”, by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan. That’s when I realized, “Oh, I’ve been trying to do all the things at all times of the day, but I really need to do the most important things during my most productive hours of the day.”
So I encourage you to find the time that you’re most productive, have the highest energy, and utilize those times to record your podcast.
5. Having a Plan
The biggest energy-sucker of all time is trying to “wing it”. You’ll spin your wheels in frustration trying to figure it out on the fly and before you know it, all of your most productive energy is wasted.
Instead, why not take a few minutes to plan out what you’re going to say.
This doesn’t have to look like an elaborate outline or script. You can scribble out a few bullet points on a Post-It note and call that your plan.
The point is to have a plan. Don’t let your energy be wasted.
In summary, the best way to have more energy podcasting is to find the energy boosters that can make this process easier. And also acknowledge those energy-suckers that you need to steer away from.
You can have as much energy recording your podcast as you want. The key is to figure out what works best for you.
