Monthly Podcast Allowance for Time
First, let’s break down what we’re talking about when it comes to monthly podcast time allowance. When you’re creating your podcast and choosing a hosting site (like Buzzsprout), then you have to choose a plan that will work within the time you’ve allotted for your podcast episodes.
For example, Buzzsprout has plans that range from Free – $24/month with the following pricing and time structure
- Free: Upload 2 hours/month
- $12/month: 3 hours/month
- $18/month: 6 hours/month
- $24/month: 12 hours/month
Every once in awhile, you may find yourself with extra time until your billing period is over. That’s what I want to talk about today. Let’s assume you have 27 minutes left in your month podcast allowance. What do you do with that time?
Here are a few options!
1. Facebook Live
You could always go live on Facebook (or other streaming platforms) and record an impromptu episode. This could include a fun Q&A with your audience or another segment you’ve been thinking bout trying. Once the live is over, simply download the file and upload it to your hosting site.
Make sure you check out this video here that shows you have to convert a Facebook live from Streamyard and turn it into a podcast episode. *Get a $10 credit to Streamyard when you sign up here.
2. Extra Interview
Do you have a friend or colleague who’s always up for a quick chat about your industry? This could be a fun opportunity to have them join you for a special interview on the podcast.
Think of it as a less structured interview. In other words, you don’t have to do all of the plan and prep work you’d do for a usual interview because it’s someone you know. Keep it super casual and fun!

3. Promo Episode
Have you ever considered using your extra monthly podcast allowance to throw in a promo episode? Do you have something special coming up in the next few weeks that you’d like to tease your audience about? Maybe you can tell them about a project that’s a work-in-progress. Or clue them into something else you’ve been working on. Or outright do an entire short commercial on one of your products or services.
This is just another great option to use that extra time you have on your monthly podcast allowance.
4. Make Your Last Episode Longer
This option isn’t always ideal. Maybe you like to stick to a certain number of minutes for each episode and making one longer doesn’t fit into your show format. But, this is definitely an option to use that extra monthly podcast allowance if you don’t want it to go to waster.
When to Publish This Bonus Content…
I’ll keep this super…publish and or schedule this bonus content before your monthly podcast allowance expires. Meaning, before your account renews for the next month and this time allotment goes away.
So you have to decide if you want to publish the episode directly after your regular podcast episode or space it out over more from your usual schedule.
