Episode 400

Lessons Learned from Recording 400 Podcast Episodes

Wow! If you would’ve told me when I published this show back in 2018 that we would hit 400 episodes – I would’ve cackled in your face!

Technically, between The Proffitt Podcast and The Poddy Report, I’ve published 1,215 episodes. But this episode marks the officially numbered “Episode 400” so we’re celebrating the pod’s bday today!

Here are the four lessons I’ve learned from recording over 400 podcast episodes for The Proffitt Podcast.

4 Lessons Learned from Recording 400 Podcast Episodes

Lesson One: Just hit publish and put yourself out there.

Had I not hit publish on my podcast back in 2018 and put myself out there (well before I felt comfortable “podcasting”), I wouldn’t have had the incredible experiences over the years that’ve changed my life!

I’ve been able to interviewing interesting people, network with industry experts, and even interview my mentor, Amy Porterfield, not once but twice on the podcast!

If you have a strong message on your heart to share, don’t be afraid to put it out there!

Lesson Two: Being in it for the long game gives you a new perspective.

When you fully commit to “being a podcaster,” something changes. You no longer worry about how many people are listening to your show this week or how much your podcast has grown from episode ten to episode forty. You’re in it for the long game.

If you make a mistake, it’s fine — you’re in it for the long game.
If you record a terrible episode, it’s okay — you’re in it for the long game!

Lesson Three: Learned the ins and outs of podcast ads.

I know this sounds a little random to include a lesson about podcast ads, but the truth is — podcast ads have helped me make a lot of money in my business. And over the years, I’ve learned to experiment and try new things to figure out what works and what doesn’t.

If you’re thinking about starting a podcast and want to learn more about podcast ads, you’ll find entire lessons dedicated to them in the new version of Proffitt Podcasting launching May 2023! You can buy the program at today’s price and get automatic access to the new program when it launches. Learn more here.

Lesson Four: This podcast is like my science lab.

I try to experiment as much as possible with my podcast so that you can reap the benefits of my results. When new features come out, I try them on this podcast. When a new strategy emerges, I try it here first.
I’ve learned how show notes perform better, SEO strategies, being a better interviewer, and solo episode planning.

A few highlights from The Proffitt Podcast over the years:

  • Total downloads: 206,919
  • Number of countries: 163 countries
  • Top 5 Cities: Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Austin, & Chicago
  • Top 1.5% of global podcasts

And those are the 4 Lessons Learned from Recording 400 Podcast Episodes. Sometimes it’s just about the long game and staying in it for the long haul — not the quick win or moment of virality. I didn’t start this podcast to create 400 episodes, but I already can’t wait for the next 400!
