Episode 332
Content Creation “Rules”, Stop Putting Your Content in a Box!
There aren’t really content creation “rules”…
But there are a few guidelines I live and teach by!
“You can always change these up in the future.”
However, what I often hear from content creators is the exact opposite. “Once you start on one way, you can’t change things up over time.”
Who told you that?
Where did that idea come from?
Because if you look at the span of my content over time, you’ll be able to see the twists, turns, and pivots I’ve made.
I meet a lot of content creators that come to me stressed out about the processes of their content, the format, and even the style of their show.
When I say to them, “Why don’t you try [insert any number of things that would make their life easier]…”, their immediate response is, “Can I do that?”
YES! It’s YOUR content. You can do whatever you want.
Content creators get set on a path that they think must be the only journey for what they’re creating and they get scared to deviate out of their comfort zone.
The Perfect Example…
I have a friend that hates – HATES! – creating show notes for her podcast. She creates the basic episode descriptions to go in Buzzsprout, but when it comes to creating individual posts that will live on her website…she cringes.
“Well, don’t do them then…” I told her one day.
She was like, “Wait, I can do that?”
Yes, absolutely!
If you start seeing friction in your processes, pay attention. Those areas of concern or wanting to avoid them completely is a sign that something’s gotta give.
Don’t put your content in a box and then never give yourself the chance to break it free.
