Podcast Guest Experts, More Than One?

Can I Have Multiple Podcast Guest Experts on the Same Topic?

I had the same conversation twice in one day – with different people.

That tells me I need to talk about what’s actually going on underneath the surface.

I was about to start an interview with PR and publicity expert, Christina Lenkowski (her episode airs in a few weeks), and we had a chat about her appearing as a podcast guest experts on podcasts, even thought we’ve already had multiple people talk about the importance of guesting on podcasts.

Then later that day, I had a call with Kim Stewart of the Book Marketing Mania podcast who brought up a question around having multiple experts of the same topic on the podcast.

“How can you multiple guests who do the same thing without it being the same conversation?”

Such a great question! And that’s exatly what we’re diving into today.

How the Content Keeps Moving – without Overlap

If you’re a long time listener of The Proffitt Podcast, you know we’ve talked about “podcast guesting” multiple times.

But each time we cover the topic, we bring a new spin with a different guest. And I’m confident we could keep that going — new guest + new perspective = same topic — forever! But there are specific points to be made before inviting the same type of guest on your podcast without having content that overlaps previous interviews.

People Have Unique Stories, Experiences and Perspectives

  • Where people live and/or grew up, their journey, or even contradictory POVs than other guests is something that I invite
  • That doesn’t mean that I look for guests that are going to be openly controversial to what we’ve already created, but I don’t shy away from someone that has a fresh perspective on something

Things change in the industry

  • When I look at guests from the podcast 3 years ago, that conversation may be totally different today
  • People are looking for new valuable resources

New mentors and coaches keep the world moving

  • Stand Up Comedians are the perfect example! I love so many comedians and I love them all for their unique qualities they bring to the table. I don’t want only 1 comedian in my life. I want them all! That’s how people feel about really good experts that you’ll introduce them to on your podcast.
