Celebrating One Year of The Poddy Report: Insights and Reflections

Well, well, well, we did it! Yes, we officially hit the one-year mark for The Poddy Report. Oh, wait, you don’t know what that is? Yes, The Poddy Report is my daily podcast. If you did not know, I have a daily podcast, and that’s what this episode is all about today—letting you know that we have a daily podcast that is officially one year old!

What Is The Poddy Report?

The Poddy Report is my daily podcast that comes out Monday through Friday, and each episode is only five minutes or less. We’re going to dive deep into why I launched this podcast, the challenges, and the joys of doing it for an entire year straight. So let’s get right to it!

Infomercial Disclaimer

Disclaimer: The results you hear today may not be typical for all podcasters. I was trying to do that fast infomercial voice. Do you remember a time before prescription meds were advertised on TV? It was a big deal when suddenly, you could see all these pharmaceutical ads, encouraging you to talk to your doctor. Anyway, that was my attempt at an infomercial voice because I’m going to share some fun things about the podcast today.

The Poddy Report Turns One

Y’all, I nerd out about all things statistics and data, and today we’re celebrating one year—12 full months—of my daily show, The Poddy Report. So if you didn’t know, I have a daily podcast, and we’re going to get into all the details of why I did this, why I launched this podcast, and much more.

Why I Launched the Podcast

First and foremost, The Poddy Report has many meanings behind its name. “Poddy” is obviously podcast-related, and I love the name. I’m in the middle of trademarking the name “The Poddy People,” which is my membership community. The Poddy Report logo, if you haven’t seen it, is everything. Shout out to April Bradford, who created this incredible logo featuring a microphone and a chick sitting on a toilet looking at her phone. It makes my heart so happy because it captures the essence of what I wanted—a podcast people can listen to in digestible chunks while getting ready in the morning.

The Daily Podcast Experience

Why It All Started

I launched this podcast on March 28, 2020, right as the pandemic hit. Initially, I planned to launch my course, Proffitt Podcasting, which teaches entrepreneurs how to start, launch, and market their podcasts. But when the pandemic hit, I panicked and decided to delay the launch. Instead, I decided to go ahead with the daily podcast idea I’d been toying with.

The Concept Behind The Poddy Report

The idea was to create a podcast with episodes five minutes or less that people could listen to while doing their morning routines. The name, The Poddy Report, also has personal significance—my dad has been a plumber for most of my life, so the plumbing roots run deep.

Using The Poddy Report as a Sandbox

I wanted a place to test ideas before bringing them to The Proffitt Podcast. The Poddy Report has become my playground podcast, a sandbox where I can try out new content ideas, see how they stick, and get feedback from listeners.

Key Learnings from One Year of Daily Podcasting

1. Easy Batching

It’s very easy to batch a podcast when episodes are five minutes or less. I can record an entire week of episodes in less than 30 minutes. This flexibility has been crucial for maintaining the podcast, especially when preparing for breaks or vacations.

2. Five Minutes or Less: Both Freeing and Challenging

Keeping episodes short forces me to stay concise and to the point. It also means I need to come up with more content ideas regularly. I often choose an overarching theme for the week and explore it from different angles each day.

3. Repetition Is Okay

I’ve learned that repeating myself is okay. I’ve talked about content planning, taking time off, understanding listeners, and equipment multiple times but from different perspectives. Repetition helps reinforce important concepts and provides fresh insights each time.

4. Creative Freedom

The solo-only format of The Poddy Report has given me immense creative freedom. There’s no pressure to book interviews, create show notes, or produce audiograms. I can share behind-the-scenes insights and spontaneous thoughts, keeping the content fresh and fun.

Conclusion

Creating The Poddy Report has been a fantastic experience. It has allowed me to experiment, share spontaneous ideas, and keep my podcasting journey exciting and enjoyable. As we celebrate this one-year milestone, I encourage you to keep your podcasting journey fun and engaging.
