What Does “Batch Podcast Episodes” Mean?
I’m sure there are a million different definitions online for what “batching” means. And those definitions may differ from what I’m about to tell you. But, batching simply means doing one task for an extended period of time.
If you want to know more about what principles I’ve used to develop my “batching” strategies, check out the book The One Thing by Gary Keller & Jay Papasan. If you struggle with time management or feeling like you’re never getting enough done in a day, I highly recommend reading this book and implementing its principles!

How I Batch Podcast Episodes
I batch in stages. I don’t sit down, plan, record, edit, upload, and then market my episodes each week. (That makes me cringe at the thought of doing that – because it’s how I used to create my podcast episodes. And let me tell you, that model is exhausting!)
The different stages to batch podcast episodes:
Planning
Plan multiple episodes in one sitting because getting in the “planning” flow can take a while. And really getting into the creative flow can be challenging. So make sure you’ve allotted plenty of time to get some great content planning in.
Recording
If you didn’t already know this, I have 3 kids. So when I get an hour of quiet time to record, I try to record as many episodes or pieces of content as possible. And I can do this easily because my episodes are already planned out ahead of time.
Editing
I don’t typically edit all of my podcast episodes for The Proffitt Podcast in one sitting. I like to edit my podcast episodes in the morning when everyone else is still asleep. (Except for The Poddy Report – those episodes are less than 5 minutes each so it’s easier to edit in one sitting.)
Uploading
If I’m on top of my editing and getting ahead of the game (in an ideal world, right?), I could upload multiple podcast episodes all at one time. This means being able to upload an episode and upload the rest of the podcast hosting site information for the episode: Title, Description, Episode Number, etc.
Marketing
Creating your graphics and soundbites at one time can make your life so much easier! When you get into that creative flow, it’ll take you less time to create multiple images or audiograms than doing them all individually.
Do you see how these steps compound on top of each other?
