3 Reasons People Won’t Buy Products from Your Content

When it comes to making an offer in your content, there are 3 specific reasons people won’t buy — no matter how many times you ask.

Let’s dive into them one at a time.

1. TOO MANY CTAs

One of the biggest mistakes I see when a content creator asks me to audit their content — podcast, blog or YouTube channel — is have way too many CTAs (calls-to-action). Don’t ask someone to:

  • Subscribe
  • Follow you on Instagram
  • Download your freebie
  • Check out your website
  • Join your Facebook group
  • AND buy your product

Not all in the same episode at least! Your audience will have too many options and therefore won’t take action on any of them.

DO THIS INSTEAD

  1. Have one clear CTA that’ll lead into your sales funnel, or directly “make the ask”. (AKA ask them to buy your product without sending them to a funnel.
  2. Don’t have too many options or steps within your CTA.
  3. Pick the most strategic approach for your content and audience.

2. CONFUSING MESSAGE

“If you confuse, you lose.” If you can’t articulate what your product is or why someone should buy it, you’ve already lost. Don’t have a confusing message when you start talking about your product in your content.

DO THIS INSTEAD

  1. Create an elevator pitch that’s clear and concise.
  2. You can literally read the script for your product so that you cover all of the most important benefits and features your audience needs to know.

3. PRODUCT IS UNRELATED TO CONTENT

I can’t wait to publish my fiction book one day, but I know it’s not related (like at all!) to what I talk about in my content. Sure, there may be a few buyers that’ll want to read it because I wrote it, but it’s not related to what I typically talk about on my podcast, blog, or YouTube channel.

You should only be selling products, services, and affiliate promotions related to your topic. AKA it needs to make sense to the audience.

DO THIS INSTEAD

    1. Tie your product back to your content so that they are related to one another.
    2. Even if it’s loosely based, you need a connection between your product and content.

Those are the 3 reasons people won’t buy products from your content.
