Content Elevator Pitch, What is It & Why Your’s May Not Be Working
What is a content elevator pitch?
Yes, this definition applies to ALL types of content: podcast, YouTube, social media, email, etc.
An elevator pitch by definition is a short description of an idea, product, or company that explains the concept in a way such that any listener can understand it in a short period of time. (Wikipedia had the best definition I found out there!)
There are 6 important elements to any good content elevator pitch that we need to talk about!
1. CALL OUT TARGET AUDIENCE – Who Your Content was Created For
2. MAIN PROBLEM OF AUDIENCE – Common Problems Your Audience Face
3. CONTENT TITLE/NAME – What You’re Calling Your Content
4. YOUR CONTENT IS THE SOLUTION – How You Help Solve Their Problems
5. 2-3 TOPICS OF FOCUS – Content Ideas You’ll Talk About
6. CALLS-TO-ACTION – Listen to Podcast, Visit Website, Subscribe to YouTube Channel, Follow on Social Media, Etc.
Content Elevator Pitch Example Template
Here’s an example template from one of my previous content elevator pitches you can use to create your own:
“Podcasting can be sooo overwhelming! There are many moving parts [MAIN PROBLEM].
And that’s where The Proffitt Podcast [PODCAST NAME] comes in. On the podcast, we strive to teach entrepreneurs [TARGET AUDIENCE] how they can START, LAUNCH and MARKET their podcasts [SOLUTION TO PROBLEM].
We discuss everything from understanding the technology, content planning, and growth strategies for podcasters [3 MAIN TOPICS].
You should check it out if you’re interested in podcasting as a marketing strategy for your business [PODCAST TOPIC]. You can find the podcast on my website at KrystalProffitt.com/podcast or on your favorite podcast app.
Do you have any other questions about podcasting [PODCAST TOPIC]?”
It’s so important that you know how to talk about your content. It’s not enough to create awesome content. You have to be able to tell people about it too.
Now, it’s your turn!
Create your own content elevator pitch by downloading the FREE guide below taken directly from my digital program, Proffitt Podcasting.
Why Your Elevator Pitch Isn’t Working…
There are a few reasons why your content elevator pitch may not be working. Let’s explore a few of them so you can make sure your pitch — either your first or next — is getting people to check out your content.
3 Reasons Your Elevator Pitch Isn’t Working
- Your Message is Confusing
- Your audience isn’t clear
- The “value” isn’t being called out (Make sure you listen to today’s podcast episode where I played the clip from an old – BAD – elevator pitch!)
What to Do About It
- Don’t use “cutesy” or confusing language. Speak very plainly about your topic, the problem you solve, and who you serve.
- Get in conversation with your audience so that you’re speaking their language, not trying to assume what they want to hear. This is one of the main reasons why I do a live stream each week; to be in touch with what my audience wants & the language that they use when talking about content.
