“5 Keys to Repurposing Podcast Content”, She Podcasts Talk
What Does Repurposing Podcast Content Mean?
t’s talk about using one piece of content — more than once.
The definition that I like to use for what “repurposing podcast content” means is: Taking one piece of content and using it for multiple purposes.
It’s not just about taking a video, stripping the audio, and calling it a podcast. You can do that, but if you’re stopping there…you may be missing some big opportunities to reuse your content many ways.
But before we get all big and fancy, I want you to look at what you’re doing with the content you’re already creating. If you’re already podcasting or creating content elsewhere, how can you use what you already have?
Here are a few examples of how I’ve used repurposing podcast content for my own platforms:
EXAMPLE 1:
- One podcast episode becomes a blog post, 3 5-min YouTube clips, 10 social posts (between quotes, carousel images, video clips, etc.)
- A simple system to help you repurpose each episode with ease by identifying the best episodes to leverage
- Start with the long-form piece of content (usually your podcast/interview) and then break it down
- I’ll usually pick an episode that my audience has asked me about or has the most downloads
- Create a transcription to help create a simple blog post (show notes)
EXAMPLE 2:
- Reusing video content previously used for another purpose;
- Like a live stream, coaching call, presentation — kind of like what I’m doing with this episode today — etc.
EXAMPLE 3:
- Taking questions from your community and answering it in a piece of content
- I do this often by saying, “I get asked all the time: [INSERT QUESTION].” (If you want examples of this, go watch some videos on my YouTube Channel!)
5 Major Keys to Repurposing Podcast Content
Let’s break down the 5 Major Keys.
There are 5 things to consider when you’re going to start repurposing podcast content. And I really wish I knew these from the beginning of my podcast journey. (I would’ve avoided a ton of mistakes!)
1. Know Your Why
- Why do you want to repurpose your podcast?
- A big fear of podcasters is that they’ll only have like 5 good ideas and then nothing else
- My specialty and what I call my superpower is never running out of content ideas
- And I do this by re-creating pieces of successful content
- Whether it’s adding new stories, perspectives, different case studies or simply revisiting a topic months later, there’s always a new take on a piece of content
2. Know Your Goal
- How to use content repurposing to align with your goals? (This ties back into your why.)
- Is it to free up your time?
- Appear in more places online – additional platforms (social media)
- Helps you stay top of mind – which is a fantastic marketing trick
- SEO and ways to show up in Google
3. Know Your Plan
- Makes creating content have less friction
- How to use one piece of content across multiple platforms?
- Social media, blog posts, lead generation (email marketing), video
4. Know Your Time
- The importance of taking breaks
- Seasons and repurposing old pieces of content
- Ideas on batching content for future repurposing
5. Know Your Limits
- What are you limits with repurposing podcast content?
- This is something that only you can decide, I can’t tell you how much or how little content to create
- You have to figure out your own limits when it comes to creating content
