Creating Amazing Podcast Websites: A Beginner’s Guide
Alright, Proffitt Podcast listeners, y’all know that I love trying new things, right? This podcast wouldn’t be here if I didn’t have the confidence to go out and try new things, and then report back to you. I feel like you’re my manager. I’m out there, grinding, doing the things, and then every once in a while, I come back and report how it worked, or didn’t. So that’s what we’re doing today. We’re doing a two-part episode on creating amazing podcast websites. This is part one, focusing on beginners. Welcome to the Proffitt Podcast, where we teach entrepreneurs how to start, launch, and market their podcast. I’m your host, Krystal Proffitt, and I’m so excited that you’re here. Thanks for hanging out with me today. Think of this show as the time-saving shortcut you’ve been looking for. Let’s get right to it!
Part 1: Podcast Website for Beginners
In this mini-series, we’re breaking down the topic of podcast websites. Today, we’re focusing on the basics for beginners. In the next episode, we’ll cover more advanced strategies for those looking to level up. Everything we discuss today can be found in the show notes at KrystalProffitt.com/episode263.
My First Website Experience
I wanted to start with my first experience creating a website. A few years ago, in 2014-2015, we lived in a small town in East Texas. I was a stay-at-home mom, writing a lot and taking the kids to the library for some adult interaction. The library, which was community-run with minimal funds, needed help redoing their website. Despite having no experience, I offered to help. They assured me I couldn’t make it worse than it was, which boosted my confidence. I ended up helping them improve their website and gained valuable experience.
That small step gave me the confidence to create my own website later. Fast forward to today, I’ve learned a lot about websites, from hosting on WordPress to creating in Weebly. While I’m not a developer, I’ve managed to develop KrystalProffitt.com and ProffittPodcasting.com with some help from copywriters.
“Do I Need a Podcast Website?”
I often get asked, “Do I actually need a podcast website if I’m just getting started?” My answer is always yes. There are many ways to have a website, and it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. There’s a product available right now, part of the BC Stack promotion, where I teach how to create a podcast website that listeners actually want to visit. For $47, you get access to this training and many other expert products. Check it out at KrystalProffitt.com/bcstack21.
1. Organic Reach
The obvious reason your podcast needs a website is for organic reach. Organic reach is crucial, especially as social media algorithms change. Having a website with targeted content and SEO keywords helps your podcast stand out and reach a broader audience without relying solely on social media.
I’ve played around with promoting on Facebook and Instagram, but organic reach through consistent content and SEO is invaluable. In the next episode, I’ll share my Google Analytics to show the impact my podcast website has had over time. The sooner you start, the better.
2. Next Steps with Your Audience
Another important reason for having a podcast website is it gives you a place to connect with your audience. This is why I always mention my show notes. Having a website allows you to direct listeners to additional resources, videos, and products they might not find otherwise.
It also helps with list building. We’ve talked about list building before, and having a website makes it easier to create lead magnets and landing pages. Using tools like WordPress and ConvertKit, you can create custom URLs that make it easier for your audience to find and engage with your content.
Quick Recap & Outro
To recap, your podcast needs a website for:
- Organic Reach: Utilizing SEO and keywords to reach a broader audience organically.
- Next Steps with Your Audience: Connecting with your audience, selling products, and building your email list.
Your calls to action are everything. Make sure you have easy-to-say, easy-to-read, easy-to-remember URLs, like KrystalProffitt.com/episode263. Consistency is key.
