Hi, I'm Krystal.
Welcome to The Proffitt Podcast - where we teach you how to create  content with confidence.

I’ve been thinking a lot about self-care, self-love, and taking care of myself lately.  Maybe it’s all of the hoopla left over from the Back-To-School. Or maybe it’s because I noticed how hard I was being on myself.

We are our own worst critics, am I right?

We mentally beat ourselves up.
We talk to ourselves in ways we wouldn’t wish on our enemies.
We torture ourselves mentally and physically to be these mythical Super Women society charges us to be.

Well, I’m done with all of that BS!

Maybe you don’t think the words BS and prayer should go together in a sentence, but I’m living proof that God still loves us despite our foul mouths!

I need that shirt, “I love Jesus, but I cuss a little.”

Anyway, back to my self-loathing…I mean, self-care.

No One Can Love You as Well as You

After the holidays this past year, plus gearing up to move for the 3rd time in 4 years, I started noticing I’d gained a few pounds. My scale didn’t have to tell me, my jeans did.

So I decided I was going to start taking better care of myself.  But how?

I already worked out several times a week. Although at that point, I had made some pretty poor eating decisions over the holidays, but who doesn’t?

I get some “me-time” at some point during every day: a quiet bubble bath – rarely, settling down with a good book – maybe a few times a week, or at least binge watch something that engages my drama sensors – I do this instead of reaching for ice cream.

So what else can I possibly do?  I’m already doing all of the things I’m “supposed” to be doing.

No One Can Love You as Well as You

Why do I still feel like I’m not 100% myself lately?

Then it hit me.

Why am I asking myself these questions, when I know who has the answers.

I started asking God.

Now you may stop reading here, and that’s okay.

You can hop on over to the Podcast page and find some good info that will hopefully bring a smile to your face. I won’t be upset. Promise.

Okay, if you’re still here with me, here is my point.  I was already in the habit of daily prayer, but it dawned on me there was no place on my list for just me.

My prayer list reflected everyone around me, but not me.

There were lists of friends and family, children, dogs (Y’all for real, I pray for my dog…and patience with him and the kids…DAILY!), housing situations, my husband’s new job, a friend’s troubled relationship, etc.

But there still wasn’t anything on the list for me.

So, I decided I’d write what I needed down.  Here is what I wrote:

  • Self-Image
  • Take Care of Myself
  • My foot (I’ve had a sports injury for a while)
  • Guidance

I looked down at my notebook, my pen, and the list and immediately felt a little better.  It was as if the physical act of writing those words placed them directly into the hands of God and no longer burdened my shoulders.

No One Can Love You as Well as You

And here is precisely how I prayed for these things (and how I continue to do this every day):

“God, please help me love myself the way you love me.  Let me see myself through your eyes and your eyes alone.

Lord help me take care of myself daily.  Help me eat better, get in my workouts, and make time to relax every day, if only for a few minutes.

Please heal my foot.  I’ve learned to adapt to life without running as much, but I sure do miss it. (Answered Prayer Update: I now run 5 miles at least 3 times a week!)

God, I pray for guidance.  Please let me do your will and not my own.  Guide my words, guide my thoughts, guide my actions today.”

No One Can Love You as Well as You

Y’all taking care of your family is important. It’s possibly one of the MOST important things you can do in your life. But you HAVE to take care of yourself first.

Pray for yourself just as diligently as you pray for others.

Put yourself on the list.
Write down your goals.
Write down your dreams.
Write down how you want to change the world.

Just love yourself along the way.

I hope you can find a way to love yourself and take care of yourself, but just in case you need any help along the way, please don’t hesitate the ask the One with all of the answers.

Keep it up Rookies! We all have to start somewhere!
